Year Round Volunteering

Adam’s Camp Advocates

There are many ways Adam’s Camp Advocates support the work of Adam’s Camp.  Some of the options are described here.

Spread the Word

Word of mouth is the most powerful recruitment and fundraising tool we have. We attend various community events throughout the year and rely on volunteers to represent us. Each event usually requires a 6 – 8 hour commitment to staff a booth and/or transport display equipment and PR materials to and from the Adam’s Camp office.

If you have a child in school and are willing to visit your school’s special education director to explain and promote Adam’s Camp programs, we could use your help now! We will orient you to the message and materials.

We also need Advocates throughout the year to meet with representatives from supporting organizations (such as the Autism Society) and to visit community programs (such as Special Olympics). If you love Adam’s Camp, this is easy and fun. We provide the orientation, talking points and materials. You provide the energy, enthusiasm and parent wisdom.

Office Assistant

Office support is a great way to help our small staff! We can use volunteers throughout the year, Monday through Friday. Here are some of the various jobs to be done:

  • Data entry
  • Web and phone research
  • Filing
  • Mailings
  • Preparing packets
  • Processing registration packets for completeness

Time Commitment: We appreciate volunteer support for 2-4 hours per visit at our office, between 9am-5pm.

Service Projects

Adam’s Camp greatly benefits from service projects that are designed and/or supported by individuals, families and organizations. Many of the volunteer jobs listed here are done by groups (work, family, faith-based initiatives) that come together to participate in a high-impact project that has a limited timeframe – anything from 2 hours to one day. If you are interested in organizing a service project or joining one, please let us know. Contact Helga Simons, Volunteer Coordinator, at our offices by email or by phone, 303-563-8290 x 16.

Fundraising

Community volunteers work year-round to raise funds through grants, special events and individual donor campaigns. In any year family paid program fees cover about half of the total cost of our specialized programming. Families tap into various personal funding sources such as health insurance, county service funding and/or personal funds to cover their program fees. Adam’s Camp raises the rest up to 60% of the total cost plus additional funds to award scholarships for families in need.

We are always open to creative fundraising ideas. We are enthused by the success of the families and groups that develop and conduct fundraisers on our behalf and we encourage families to organize fundraisers through their networks of friends, work and faith communities. Many individuals and groups also support us by joining up with fundraisers that Adam’s Camp develops and conducts. Either way, help is needed all year!  Contact Karel Horney at our offices by email or by phone, 303-563-8290 x 11.

Committee Member

Our Board of Directors is a working board. Each board committee welcomes non-board members to join and work on projects related to fundraising, camper and therapist recruitment, program development, community relations, etc.

Time Commitment: 4 – 10 hours per month.  For more information on getting involved with an Adam’s Camp committee, contact Karel Horney at our offices by email or by phone, 303-563-8290 x 11.
